I just finished my biggest commissioned piece to date. This 'tight grey shag' design is 48"X60" and made with hand cut vitreous glass tiles, seed beads and crystal rhinestones. The shag effect is created by standing the cut tiles 'upright' like little soldiers (thousands of little soldiers) and placing them one at a time side by side. Yes labour intensive but, as always, in the end worth the work. It's a stunner!
Step #1 is done, it's finished (yeah!). Step #2, still to do and always the fun part, get it photographed. And step #3, still to do and should be interesting as it weighs about 90lbs!, get it to the client's house. Stayed tuned...

Nicely done!
I would love to see it when it is hung. I hope your client sends a picture for your 'gallery'.
Margie
Hi Karen,
I thought you glued the mirror on the plywood. Looking this picture I realize it is not the case... How than do you put the frame and the mirror together?
The other side of the wood frame has a routered edge that I drop the mirror into after all the mosaic work is done. I then silcone where the mirror meets the frame which holds the mirror in place - nice and tight.
Does that help?
Yes it does. Though how do you get it cut this way???
Do you also put silicone on the mirror before droppoing the mirroe into the routered?
So many questions...hope you don't mind :)
It makes so much sense. Otherwise it will be too heavy.
