Happy Birthday Canada!

Lovely photo from Honey Nutbrown's.

Today is Canada Day.
How Wikipedia defines it: Frequently referred to as "Canada's birthday", particularly in the popular press, the occasion marks the joining of the British North American colonies of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and the Province of Canada into a federation of four provinces (the Province of Canada being divided, in the process, into Ontario and Quebec) on July 1, 1867. Canada became a kingdom in its own right on that date but the British Parliament kept limited rights of political control over the new country that were shed by stages over the years until the last vestiges were surrendered in 1982 when the Constitution Act patriated the Canadian constitution.

How your average Canadian defines it: July 1st is Canada's BDay! A day to kick back, relax, watch some fireworks, have a beer and make a toast to this big, beautiful country that we proudly call Canada. This year July 1st falls on a Friday giving lots of happy Canadians a long weekend which means more time to kick back, relax, watch some fireworks, have a beer and make a toast to this big, beautiful country that we call home. Happy 144th Birthday Canada. Cue The National Athem!!!...

Thanks for the history lesson. If Canadian history had been taught in a more interesting way most of us would (and should) know this.
Cheers to K.D. Lang - she sang Oh Canada and said "in all of our command...", NOT "in all thy sons command ...".
